Term: projection interneuron
Definition: Projection interneurons form the category of interneurons that send an axon through a pathway from one gray matter region to synapse in one or more different gray matter regions, although the axon may establish local collaterals as well (Swanson, 2003, p. 245; Bota and Swanson, 2007, Fig. 3).
